Dhananjaya Karandana is a PACE Institute student who completed the Red Hat System Administration module I & II (RH124 and RH135) and passed the Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Exam (EX200) successfully. He talked to us about studying Linux certifications and why he chose to follow Red Hat Certifications at PACE Institute.
1. What is Your Background? Are You a Full Time Student/Working?
I studied at Ananda College, Colombo. Thereafter I joined Infortec International to study Higher Diploma in Computer Studies (HDICS) and British Computer Society (BCS) programs. That’s my first step into the field of IT. Thereafter I joined eBEYONDS (Pvt) Ltd-a digital marketing company as a web developer. This is my successful second year at eBEYONDS. That’s a turning point in my life to a brighter future with guidance and adequate support given by the industry professionals. Then I was lucky enough to join PACE Institute where my Red Hat pathway began.
2. Why did You Start Getting Qualified for Red Hat Qualifications?
Red Hat certification program is a career pathway that has been internationally recognized. It has become an industry standard. The Red Hat certification program offers IT professional certifications for Red Hat products and general Linux related skills such as system administration on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. There are lot of benefits in learning Red Hat which include decreasing software costs, increasing security and stability, protecting privacy, and giving users more control over their own hardware. Currently, within the Sri Lankan IT industry, there is a huge demand for Red Hat professionals but only a very few have been produced so far. So there are many career opportunities if you to become a Red Hat Certified Professional.
3. What do You Think About the Quality of Training?
Quality of training was really excellent, much more than actually you would pay for. I take this opportunity to thank and give my regards to our Red Hat Trainers at PACE Institute. Their unparalleled expertise in the subject matter and the support given to us were truly admirable. Only industry recognized professionals could deliver such results.
4. Was it Difficult to Switch from Windows to Linux?
There’s a first time for everything, I have taken a decision and it was proved it’s a worthy one. So don’t hesitate to switch over and get certified and get knowledge of a unique platform which only a few out of the best could acquire.
5. How do You Describe the Learning Experience?
Learning experience was quite good . It’s never a boring one just like typical classroom sessions.
6. Was the Exam Difficult? Or Easy? Did You Get the Questions that You Thought Might be Asked?
It’s moderate; I am never going to say that it was easy. Exams are meant to be tough and competitive. First and foremost you need patience, dedication and commitment to take new challenges. A hands-on expertise is highly essential and for that you need practice. Practice builds up your confidence. Plan your exam beforehand and prepare a work plan and work accordingly then I’m sure you could be a one like me.
Another thing I should mention is that trainers at PACE really helped us to get ready for the RHCSA exam. They held a few model paper discussions before the exams so that we were confident and ready to sit for the exam.
7. Any Comments on the Class Atmosphere?
When mentioning about the classroom atmosphere, I have to say that it was a very student friendly and calm environment. The classrooms and the labs are designed to the industry standards under the proper evaluation of Red Hat International. We were definitely getting hands on skills on the best and latest technology.
8. Do You Recommend Anyone to Follow these Courses at PACE Institute?
